  Site Specific

My friend just got a site through you and they told me that it is based on a template - what does that mean? And does it mean that someone else could have the same look as mine?
To build your site in the fastest time possible we use a template library we have access to over 400 templates, and yes potentially someone else may choose the same "look" as you, but rest assured with more than 4,285,199,774 web pages (google reference October 2004) we believe you are pretty safe more information is available under our design section.

How many pages can I have?
This is based on the template you choose, more information is available.

How do I give you the information for the pages?
You do all this yourself! Enter your site, use our simple site editor and save!

Can you put my logo on the website?
Certainly! We will even resize it for you free of charge, and if you don’t have a logo, we can select one for you from our many, many fields of logos!

I have heard the term “static website” what does this mean?
A static website is a website that relies on the owner of the website to make updates to it, or more to the point, a website that looks the same every time you visit. Many of our customers have static websites, they use our very own Site Editor to make changes to their own website whenever the want, without having to use any special software or without having to contact us.

Can I put zip files for people to download on my site?
Yes, we can place zip files, PDF files, word documents, well almost any type of file that you would like to share we can place on the site for you.

What about PDF's?
See question above: can I put zip files for people to download on my site.

I’ll need a menu on my site, how do I get one?
It is all included, the menu (or navigation) comes built in with the site, depending on the design you choose you will either get navigation at the top of the screen, or the left hand side of the screen, some designs come with navigation in both places.

What type of information do I put on the front page and what goes on the other pages?

Front page (or home page)
Shows links to other pages e.g. Company | Clients| Packages| Products & Designs | Support & FAQ

Main aims, why we are here - what we are doing, perhaps some prices - think of this as the front page to a glossy brochure as many words as you like one section about 100 words and another about 50.

Company or About us Page
more detail, company years in; growth, potential, staff, credentials, where the company is heading.

Clients or Customers
list of current (and previous) clients and the work you've done with/for them and if applicable show examples.

Packages
this is off our site, in our case our sites come with 3 different options so, this page simply explains our packages in detail e.g. this package gets you eCommerce, a search facility, upload options etc

Products & Designs
Here is our nuts and bolts, look around see what we do, view our available designs, cover as much as possible without information overload.

Support & FAQ
Pretty self explanatory, although the greater emphasis here is on the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) write down say 10 + questions that you’ve already had about your product/brand/service. If it is a brand new site really brainstorm and come up with a list of questions that you think people might like to ask of you and then simply display them in a question and answer format.

How many pages/sections can I have on my site?
This really depends on whatever you’d like to see, and of course the design template that you choose. If you’d like more sections then we can arrange to quote you on additional pages.

Can I add more sections in later on?
Yes, other sections can be added in down the track, if your template allows for it, there would be a minimal charge. If the template requires more detailed design work then we can provide a quote on the completed requirement.

Can I change the text on my web pages or do I need to contact you?
Provided in of both our packages is an online website editor.  In our Bwebbed Plus package is a cut down version of the editor that the Commerce package gets..  What does all that fancy wording actually mean?.... It means that YES, you can change your website on the fly, all by yourself, saving you money and giving you complete control.

So, do you need any special skills?... Nope, if you can use Word or an email editor then you can use our online website editor – but don’t worry we’ll give you plenty of help too. Now that is not to say that we will not update pages for you, simply contact us and we can provide you with a quote on page updating.

Can I have a forum?
Absolutely, you might want to have a look at our Commerce Package, where this comes as standard, and generally would be the better option if you are looking at having a forum in your website.

Can I make changes later on – like add a forum later?
Yes, at any stage during the life of your website you can delete, modify and of course add on new functions.

Can I sell my products and services online (eCommerce)?
Yes, we have a partnership with Paymate, which simply means we can easily connect payment processing services to your site.

Can I have a photo gallery?
Yes! Photo’s galore!... well almost, lets say photos a plenty, you just need to keep in mind that the more photos you add into your site, the longer the page will take to load. Take this page for example, lets say we added five photos to it, have a look at the difference in load time at a 56k (this is about standard) modem speed and compare this with Broadband:

This page with no pictures
56k  > 26 seconds
Broadband > 11 seconds

This page with one picture
56k > 28 seconds
Broadband > 11 seconds

example image

This one image is about 8k

Not a real difference in load time, let's try adding in four additional pictures and see what that does.

This page with (now) five pictures
56k > 36 seconds
Broadband > 14 seconds

As you can see the more images, the longer the page will take, the longer the page takes, the less likely you are to have people wait around for it.

What does copy mean?
Quite simply copy means text. When you are asked to provide copy it means the text. Always try to draw pictures with your words, use your words to show, not to tell. Eg. The fields were covered in snow (nope!) how about: A blanket of crisp, fresh snowflakes covered the barren fields, the white ice drew together in defiance as if to say… or We sell many different kinds of nuts (o’dear!) wouldn’t something like this be more tempting?…. Our hand select each one of scrumptious, melt-in-the-mouth fresh nuts.  Our popular southern brown roaster is a nut that will delight...

How does speed differ? At work we have ISDN but at home I only have a 56 kbps modem, will my page still load at the same speed?
No. The speed of your internet connection will greatly affect the speed at which your web pages will download. More information is available on speed and web pages.

Do I need PHP or ASP?
Maybe, but typically it’s not something you (as our client) need to worry about.  Many websites use a database to store information, such as:

Your name and address if you have bought something from them
Product information, and pricing
Latest news
Stock prices

To be able to get information from the database to the webpage a programming language is required, and PHP and ASP are just two examples of many programming languages available for use. The reason that we say it’s not something you need to worry about however is that B’webbed will make the decision about whether we use PHP or ASP for you. You just tell us what you want on the web page, we’ll do the hard work in getting it perfect for you.

Am I still allowed to send bulk emails?
With the introduction of spam legislation there are a number of new rules around regarding when you are able to send mass emails, and what the emails must contain. B’webbed have the perfect solution for you to make sure you are not breaching the legislation, contact us for more information.

How do I get listed (and increase my rankings) in google?
The best way to get listed in google is by concentrating on having a good site, with good content, that is well organised and linked to from as many related websites as you can. Google use things like site popularity and importance to move you towards the top of the list, so the more important you can make your site the better. There is a great webinar you can watch that tells you the 7 secrets of getting your site listed on google.

Google says " A site's ranking in Google's search results is automatically determined by computer algorithms using thousands of factors to calculate a page's relevance to a given query."

Here's a few key points:
1)  Good Site - with good informative, relevant content.
2)  Good (relevant) links to and from your site, a good way to check is to go to google and type in link:www.yoursitename.com (this link will show you how many sites are linked to Microsoft.com) and if you find lots of document links - then you've done well, otherwise it's time to starting sending out link requests!
3)  Deeper sites.  At its simplest it means make sure your sites have more than one page.

Here's where you need to go to add your site to Google.
